Going the extra Myles

In the business that is college football recruiting, every chance to be seen is golden.
It’s no longer enough to have a great season and count on the big-time recruiters beating a path the front door.
Their are camps, clinics, showcases and combines at various facilities across the country designed to help match the player with the right team.
In hopes of finding that right match, Southside junior tailback Tony Myles Jr. is chasing his dream of playing at the next level all the way to Nashville.
On May 8, Myles along with players from around the south will showcase their skills in the day long Baptist Sports Medicine Combine.
Myles ran for over 1,200 yards his junior year at Southside despite suffering an ankle injury in the third game of the year.
Since then, Myles has been working hard at improving his speed and his upper body strength to impress the colleges.
That work seems to be paying off.
The Panthers started spring practice this week and Myles says he can tell a difference.
Myles, whose weight has dropped down from 230 to 210 pounds, has increased his bench impressively.
The combine will test that bench, as well as Myles’ 40 time, shuttle run, vertical jump and overall knowledge of the game.
With his improved upper body strength, Myles is starting to look more like a linebacker than a running back.
Though his heart is on offense, Myles said he is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the next level, even if that means a position switch.
Myles found out about the camp through Southside coach Chris Raymond.
Myles filled out the on-line application and was accepted.
The camp is an opportunity for Myles to grab attention. The camp will be conducted at the Tennessee Titan’s facility and most of the major southern colleges will be there.
Myles added that he hopes to major in business management.
The camp is not free, however players are allowed to seek sponsorships to help defer the cost.
Myles says he has already had some folks offer to help out.
