Community theater prepares for upcoming show

ENCORE! Community Theatre’s production of
&uot;Smokey Joe’s Caf&uot; will run Thursday through Saturday
evenings at the Larry Striplin Performing Arts Centre. Showtime will be 7:30 nightly.
Written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the musical review features 40 of the top tunes of the ’50s and the ’60s by the team that wrote the majority of Elvis’ songs and for many other rock ‘n’ roll groups as well.
The cast consists of 10 singers, two from Clanton, the rest from Selma, four women and six men.
Cain said that she has seen the show four or five times over the years, but this is the first time she has directed a production of it. &uot;It’s a personal favorite of mine,&uot; she said. Also, while she’s been involved over the years in ENCORE! this show represents her directorial debut. In the past Cain has served as music director of several ENCORE! productions.
Cain’s background is in drama and music. She got her start in church productions growing up. She studied voice in high school and at the University of Montevallo, and spent three years teaching voice and piano in a private music studio in Birmingham.
Cain has been employed as
victim service officer in the Chilton County’s District Attorney’s
office. She is concurrently working on a BS in criminal justice at Faulkner University in Montgomery
and following graduation intends to enroll in law school.
Price of admission to the show is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for children 12 and under.
