The Selma Community Concert Association will showcase “Celebration Winds,” an Atlanta and Birmingham-based 65-piece orchestra, on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. inside J.A. Pickard Auditorium.
As part of its 72nd concert series celebration, concert organizers said this is the first time the mega orchestra will grace the Pickard Auditorium’s stage, and the public is cordially invited.
“We want all high school, college and church choirs to come out,” said SCCA president Doris Holland. “Season ticket holders will have special seating and the performance is free for students.”
Having performed throughout the state, across the U.S. and in London, the orchestra will perform such musical genres as Broadway tunes, pop, Gospel and inspirational among others.
Founded in 1995 and comprised of professionals ranging from doctors to lawyers to teachers, the orchestra is under the direction of Greg Berry.
Organizers believe Saturday’s performance will be well received.
SCCA member Margaret Griffin said she anticipates a solid turnout for Saturday’s event.
“I’m really optimistic … I feel the attendance will be great,” Griffin said in a previous interview with the Times-Journal. “I’m excited about it.”
Adult tickets are still available for the event and the last concert of the season, “Three Men and a Maestro,” on March 20. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased from any SCCA member or at the door of the event.
