Detectives with the Selma Police Department are currently trying to determine whether the death of a Philpot Avenue resident was a homicide.
Selma Police Chief Robert Green said at around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night, officers responded to a call in the 700 block of Minter Avenue that a man had been assaulted.
The victim, 37-year-old Morris Phillips, was later pronounced dead at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Morris suffered from wounds to his head and left arms. The body was taken to the Department of Forensics Sciences for an autopsy.
Green said the preliminary report does not indicate a cause of death and the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Further toxicology reports are still pending.
