For the past few months we have become immune to the yard signs, billboards and car magnets supporting local candidates — those candidates who participated in Tuesday’s primary.

For months, we have seen green signs, red, white and blue signs and those signs saying “All the Way with … Pettaway.”

We have seen T-shirts, flyers, mailers and even had campaigns pop up on our television.

By the time every election comes around, there is a little bit of nausea that sets in when the phone rings and its a robocall.

Thankfully, Tuesday’s party primary is over and we have a little break between the warm-up act that was the primaries and the main attraction that is August’s municipal elections.

In just over five months, we will be casting ballots for those seeking office in the city of Selma, Valley Grande and the town of Orrville. We will also see votes cast for those seeking seats on the Selma City School Board.

And, if recent council and school board meetings are any indication, then the political theater these August will become will be something special. And, by special, we mean absolute train wreck.

At least for the next few weeks, we will be able to take a deep breath, relax and count our blessings that the political circus that is municipal elections are a few months away.

But over the next few months it is important that while emotion and drama will be part of the races, that we as voters take the time to put our thoughts together on what are the key issues come August.

As voters, our job is to sift through the “stuff” that will be thrown at us and find the substance of the candidate’s message.

Voters, enjoy your time off. While Tuesday saw a number of key races settled, we all know it is nothing like what we will see in August.
