Education funding is ongoing nightmare

We know there are arguments to be made about the level of education funding in Selma, Dallas County and the state of Alabama.
We know there are those who would say public education is inefficient and wrought with terrible spending practices.
With that said, we should all admit there are few things funded by state taxpayers more important than education.
Yet, we all accept the practices by state leaders to continue to cut funding to public education and secondary education.
As a result, we have seen education systems — including Selma and Dallas County — forced to make uncomfortable decisions in order to keep the lights on, much less provide a quality education to our children.
On the college level, continued funding cuts have led to an unimaginable increase in the cost of college, causing thousands of Alabamians to give up their dream of a college education simply because they cannot afford it.
The political nightmare that is Montgomery has done little to solve one of the single most important problems in our state and that is ensuring our state has a well-educated future.
