The 2011-2012 Selma Community Concert Association Series will come to an end Tuesday, with the performance of Three Men and a Maestro at 7 p.m. inside J.A. Pickard Auditorium.
With songs ranging from world-famous pianist Liberace to Phantom of the Opera, concert organizers believe this ensemble is a must see.
“It’s a Broadway type show with wonderful music and piano like Liberace, Elton John … drama and skits — it will be awesome,” said SSCA president Doris Holland. “It’s been a long time since we had a Broadway type show … we’re hoping to have a big crowd.”
Under the direction of Brian Gurl, Holland said the event will offer something for all ages.
“It has four highly talented … trained musicians,” Holland said. “Brian Gurl is a fantastic piano musician — he plays Liberace, Elton John (and) drama skits of Jack Benny (American comedian and Vaudevillian) and his comedy. They will do a Phantom of the Opera medley. The music includes variety-type music, that’s why I think it’ll be so appealing. We’re looking forward to getting them here.”
Musicians from the group will perform for nearly 900 students from across Selma and Dallas County Tuesday at 1 p.m. inside J. A. Pickard Auditorium as part of the association’s “Arts and Education” segment, put on by coordinators Kitty Singley and Myrna Morrow.
“Kitty Singley and Myrna Morrow … do an excellent job,” Holland said. “It’s a big job to get all of that done. It takes them several days (to plan) (and) it’s time consuming.”
Organizers said the 72nd concert series was a roaring success.
“We’ve had tremendous crowds … we do have a nice community concert crowd,” Holland said. “That 65-piece orchestra blew everybody’s mind. Everyone just enjoyed it so much.”
Holland invites ticket holders to come out and enjoy the festivities.
“Be sure to come (and) bring somebody with you,” Holland said.
