In the bottom of the third inning, the Selma Toros turned a close game into a blow out with a pair of home runs.

The homers, one from Fred Bryant and one from Deion Rudolph, opened the flood gates.

Selma scored five runs in the inning on their way to a 12-2 win over Montgomery Sunday afternoon at Bloch Park.

Selma pitcher Jamil Knight was outstanding on the mound.

He went the distance, scattering 12 hits over nine innings.

He struck out 10 hitters and allowed two earned runs.

Bryant led the Selma attack at the plate.

He drove in three runs, homered and singled.

He scored twice.

Deion Rudolph added a two-run homer and Joe Rudolph added a 3-run shot.

The teams battled to a 0-0 tie until the bottom of the third.

Pete Stephenson led off with a walk. Christopher McGraw singled the runner to the corner and stole his way to second.

Bryant broke the tie when he rocked a ball deep over the fence in left field.

Pitcher Albert Arnell recovered and struck out J. Rudolph, giving a the batter a wave as he walked back to the dugout.

Arnell taunted a little too soon.

Kevin Croom reached on an error and D. Rudolph exacted a little revenge.

He drove the a high fly ball over the fence in center to put Selma up 5-0.

It was more than enough for Knight on the hill but Selma wasn’t done.

Irvin Lovingood led off with a single to left.

He moved to third on a groundout and scored when Stephenson drove a sac fly to center.

Knight cruised through the fifth and Selma tacked on another run.

Joe Rudolph reached on an error and Croom followed with a single.

A grounder moved the runners over and Jason Strong picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Already up 7-0, Selma put two more runs on the board in the sixth.

After a lead off homer, Stephenson reached on an error.

He scored on a McGraw double.

After a scoreless second, Montgomery finally got on the board, but it only seemed to make Knight angry.

Cecil Richardson led off with a single and Chuck Mallard followed with a base hit.

Arnell doubled a run home and Montgomery had runners on second and third with no outs.

Then, Knight got medieval on the wings.

He struck out Bobby Phelps with a wicked hook and got Darnell McKay looking.

He ended the inning by striking out B.J. Reyland with some high heat.

Leading 9-1, Selma had one more big inning in them.

McGraw reached base on a fielder’s choice with two outs, then Bryant singled. Big Joe Rudolph got a little revenge on Arnell.

He crushed a ball to the gap in left-center and jogged around the bases for Selma’s fourth homer of the day.

Montgomery scratched out a run in the top of the ninth, but they fell 12-2.

The Toros next play at home on August 2, which will be fan appreciation day at Bloch Park.
