How much does that cabbage weigh?

The cabbage &045;&045; estimated at five pounds by one observer &045;&045; began as a three-leaf cabbage plant, according to Debra Towns, LaDarius’ mother. The younger Towns received his plant in March as part of a third-grade project at Knox Elementary School in Selma.

Towns said an employee at Bonnie Plant Farm in Union Springs told his class the plants needed water, sunshine and lots of care. Towns added, though, that he was also told the student with the biggest cabbage would win $50.

According to the boy with the green thumb, the cabbage received its care at LaDarius’ grandfather’s house in Sardis.
