Zeta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will present 11 debutantes and five debonair knights to society during its 27th annual Debutante Cotillion/ Knights “Rites of Passage,” Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the J. A. Pickard Auditorium.
In the last year, the debutantes and knights have been engaged in numerous training workshops and skill-building programs focused on instilling values, leadership, scholarship, as well as character, etiquette and respect.
In addition to the training, each were encouraged to compete in the sorority’s oratorical/scrapbook contests that are designed to help hone their speaking and listening skills, as well as build positive self-esteem and pride.
In addition, all debs and knights had to perform at least three community service projects.
Likewise, they were also taken to cultural enrichment plays, movies and art displays. The highlight of their training was a heritage program of African American poetry, songs and music, dedicated to their parents and the entire village that helped raise them.
The theme for this culminating affair is “An Elegant Evening of Sophistication and Swagger.”
The public is invited to come and support the participants at the J.A. Pickard Auditorium.
