That’s what you call a good investment

As a newspaper, we supported the passage of the bond issue in October 2009 and the many projects it included.
While looking back, we would have probably looked to have more funds included in certain projects, the issue as a whole has proved tremendously successful for Selma and the more than 80 percent of voters who approved the measure, should feel good about their votes.
And while driving on newly paved streets in each of Selma’s eight wards, the one investment made possible by the bond is continuing to pay off for the city, area businesses and local residents.
Over the next few weeks, you will notice a huge increase in the amount of traffic around Memorial Stadium as thousands of area athletes, their coaches and supporters flock to town to participate in one of a number of upcoming track meetings.
Dallas County will play host today to a major meet, while Concordia will host one Saturday. Next week the Alabama Independent School Association will hold their state track meet again in Selma and then in early May, the Alabama High School Athletic Association will bring the Class 1A-3A track meet to town.
Hotel rooms are at a premium and over the upcoming weeks and weekends, finding a seat at a local restaurant may be impossible to find.
The money spent on the stadium was money well spent and Selma voters should again be thanked.
