Former Dallas County High School standout Corey King signed to play the final two years of his college basketball career at Troy State University.

After his career with the Hornets, King went to Enterprise State and honed his skills with hopes of playing Division-I basketball.

“I wanted this opportunity for a long time,” King said.

King said there were several factors that led him to choose the Trojans, including their run into the NCAA tournament last season.

“I like the atmosphere,” the point guard said. “I like the coaching staff and just the run they made.”

Troy State earned a 14th-seed in the NCAA Tournament, going 26-6 overall and 14-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. They won the conference’s regular season title.

During his two years at Enterprise State, King averaged 11 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

“It felt good to come here and build (a winning tradition),” King said. “Before this year Enterprise was like a doormat.”

Enterprise went 16-13 in King’s freshman year, then improved to 23-8 in his second season.

The team set the school record for wins.

At Dallas County, King said he averaged around 21 points his senior year.

“We had a good run my senior year,” he said. “We made it to the Southeast Regional Championship.”

Playing relatively close to home, King said it will be nice to be close enough that his family and friends can watch him play.

“It’s always a bonus to have that added support,” he said.

Troy State has a returning senior at point guard, but King said he’s ready for the competition.

“I’m going in like they said, everybody’s starting off new,” he said.
