Sadie C. Smith
Sadie C. Smith, 92, of Selma, died Sunday, Mar. 9, 2003.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 14, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with Bro. Willie Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, Samuel Smith; four daughters, Fannie Orr of Selma, Viola Walker of Brooklyn N.Y., Sadie Smith of Huntsville and Evelyn Smith of Montgomery; one sister, Mary C. Williams; 20 great-grandchildren; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one sister-in-law.
Active pallbearers are family.
Honorary pallbearers are friends.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Church of Christ.
Willie Mae Williams
Willie Mae Williams, 63, of Selma, died Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2003 at a local nursing home.
Services are at 12 p.m. Monday, Mar. 17, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Elisha Williams; one daughter, Ollie Mae Walker; three brothers, Lewis Walker of Chicago, Ill., Sam Walker and Robert Walker of Selma; four sisters, Amelia Page, Rebecca Johnson, Roxie Jones, Patricia Walker all of Selma; two brothers-in-law; Matthew Jones and Richard Johnson; three grandchildren, Deshan (Angela) Walker, Leshona and Lisa Walker all of Selma; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews.
Claude McElroy
Claude McElroy, 89, of Detroit, Mich., died Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2003 in Detroit, Mich.
Graveside services are at 12 p.m. Friday, at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn King officiating and J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Emma McElroy and Florence McElroy; two nephews, Bruce McElroy and Reginald McElroy; one niece, Wanda McElroy; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. McElroy was the fifth son born to the late Walter D. and Nancy Ellis McElroy. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich. He retired after practicing law in Michigan. He also taught auto mechanics at Tuskegee University and served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army during WWII.
Joseph Robert Scott
Joseph Robert Scott, 78,
native of Selma, died Monday, Mar. 3, 2003, in Redding, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Morgan Scott, and his two children, Laura Swortwood or Portland, Ore., and Keane Scott, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; one aunt, Sarah Scott Bruce; one niece, Veta Wall; and two nephews, William Bruce and John Bruce.
Mr. Scott attended Selma Public Schools, and graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the Corps of Engineers in Germany and France during World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
After the war, he returned to Alabama where he graduated from Auburn University and then moved to Los Angeles, California.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was retired from the California educational system as a teacher.
