Members of Selma’s Southside High School Choir have been busy tuning their vocal chords and memorizing music for their very first Gospel Fest. The Fest begins at 5 p.m., Sunday, March 16 at Tipton Middle School.
The show will not only help raise money for an East Coast tour that will show off Southside High’s choir talents, but also give students a chance to learn more about singing and possibly obtain college scholarships.
According to Minor, the group will visit parts of Georgia, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Students will make stops at different colleges to attend musical workshops and audition for scholarships.
At the workshops, the choir members will learn about a variety of singing techniques, such as vocal range and proper breathing.
The tour heralds the beginning of spring break, March 22, and will continue through March 28.
Gospel Fest organizers are requesting a $5 donation to help cover tour expenses.
