The official kick-off for the Defiant Run will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Larry D. Striplin Performing Arts Center.

The Defiant Run is a 13-mile race and obstacle course event that links together two competitors of different races at the arm. The run seeks to create reconciliation and racial unity by promoting teamwork.

Competitors will be invited to Selma a week in advance of the race to participate in racial reconciliation seminars and team-building exercises.

Winners will receive a trophy, gift package and a cash donation in their name to the charity of their choice. The initial run will take place on October 4.

Tuesday, the official Defiant Run logo will be unveiled. There will also be discussions on sponsorship and volunteerism, according to Frank Hardy, who is organizing the event.
