The sign of the times had somehow bypassed J.E. Terry Elementary School all these years. The school’s presence in Plantersville had been an unintentionally well-kept secret &045;&045; no signage indicated the school’s existence.
But no more. A sign dedication Thursday inaugurated the school’s new public face.
Finally, parents and teachers banded together once more to try and raise the funds. This time, through the help of the community, their efforts paid off.
After having a fall festival and selling plenty of doughnuts and catalogs, the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) managed to raise more than $4,000 to buy the school a sign.
Dallas County Schools Superintendent Wayne May agreed.
May also was thrilled to see his name on the new sign as he approached the school Thursday.
May also emphasized how important it was to have parent involvement in the schools.
The new sign &045;&045; erected three weeks ago &045;&045; contains the name of the school and a logo of two children holding hands.
