It was senior day for one Saint, and her teammates made sure to send her out with a win, as Selma High School defeated Central Tuscaloosa 22-7 Tuesday at The Dallas County Youth Sportsplex in their final home game of the season.
Selma’s lone senior Karlynn Savage led the way for the Lady Saints with a double and an inside-the-park home run.
Mark Fedor, head softball coach of Selma High School (8-9), said the Lady Saints won their sixth straight game as Savage helped on the mound and everyone contributed.
“We let her (Savage) pitch and she did a good job pitching two innings,” Fedor said. “Everything worked out well. We had a really good game — a good team game. It was good victory. We played everybody, we hit the ball well, everybody scored. The girls played well, they ran well. We got a little lax there, gave up some walks, and let them score a few more runs than they should have, but that’s a part of the game. As long as everyone played, and had a good time, that’s what matters.”
Jashaun Davis and Sequita Carter each had a hit for Selma, while Irishia Moore had a single and a double, and Shaquira Livingston added a double and two triples for the Lady Saints.
The Lady Saints will take the field again on May 4 at the Class 5A Area 5 tournament in Demopolis against a familiar opponent in Greenville High School, and Fedor said they have a chance to make some noise.
“We played them (Greenville) tough up here. We lost to them up here 12-10,” Fedor said, “so if our girls play well, we could have a good shot down there at the area. That’s the thing that we’re looking for getting ready. As long as a lot of girls are playing and doing things right, we’re okay.”
