During a noon press conference Friday, announcing the arrest of three individuals tied to the Thursday shootout that nearly claimed the live of a pregnant teenager, Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said more charges, and more arrests, would be forthcoming.

Three hours after that press conference, another individual believed to be connected to the shooting on 1st Avenue, turned himself in, bringing the total number of arrested to four.

Daniel Latrail Jones, a 28-year-old Selma resident, came to police headquarters and turned himself in. He was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. Both charges carried a $15,000 bond.

“This individual was one of those that discharged his weapon toward the SUV while standing in the area of the front yard of the 1st Avenue home,” Riley said Saturday.

Jones, who was currently on federal probation, reportedly posted bond. Riley said Jones’ federal probationary officer had been notified of his arrest and charges.

On Thursday, police responded to a shots fired call on the 1400 block of 1st Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered that a 16-year-old pregnant girl had been struck in the head by a bullet, apparently fired during a drive-by shooting involving a white SUV.

The SUV was later found abandoned on a nearby street.

The teenager was taken by personal vehicle to the hospital for treatment of what proved to be a non-life threatening injury.

Friday, Selma Police officials announced they had arrested three people in connection to what now has been called a shootout, with suspects firing from the car toward the house and those in the front yard shooting back at the SUV.

At the time, the teenager who was injured was sitting on the front porch of the home.

Those in the car are believed to have been Selma resident Demetrius Reese, 21, and Leroy Jackson Jr., 18, both of Selma. According to authorities, Jackson was driving the car, while Reese is the one believed to have done the shooting and hit the pregnant teen in the head.

Reese has been charged with first-degree assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. Both charges carry a bond of $15,000.

Jackson has been charged with first-degree assault for his involvement in driving the getaway car. His bond was set at $15,000.

Jenorice Jones, a 34-year-old woman who was near the house at the time of the shooting, was taken into custody and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle for shooting at the SUV. She is also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, since some of the rounds she fired at the SUV missed and entered the home across the street.

Both of Jones’ charges carry a $15,000 bond.
