Luvenia Moss Dumas

Luvenia Moss Dumas, 101, died Saturday, November 22, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29, at Paradise Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Lee Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three daughters, Louiza Eaton, Rosie Mae Reed and Lula Mae Smith all of Selma; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 50 great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; two nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Larkin and Willie James Moss, and two sisters. Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Frank W. Davis Jr.

Frank W. Davis Jr., 68, of Spanish Fort, formerly of New Egypt, N.J., died Monday, November 24, 2003.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, November 28, at the Chapel of Wolfe Funeral Home in Daphne. Burial will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Jesse Louise Davis of Spanish Fort; two sons, Ty Davis of Tampa, Fla., and Frank William Davis III of Selma; two sisters, Betty Davis of New Egypt, N.J. and Norma Palmer of New Melford, Conn.; grandson, Erik Kyle Davis; one niece; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Rodgers Davis. Family visitation will be from 10 a.m. to funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 26148 Capital Drive Suite F, Daphne, AL 36526. Mr. Davis was born in New Egypt, N.J. and has been a resident of Spanish Fort for the past 20 years. He served in the United States Air Force for 26 years. He had many interesting assignments one of which was testing nuclear bombs at Christmas Island in 1963. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam and a tour of duty in Korea and Germany.

After retiring from the Air Force he graduated from the University of South

Alabama with a degree in business administration, after college he worked for Wallace Junior College at Brookley Field as a instructor in aviation mechanics. He was active in the Elk’s Club and the American Legion

Eugene Thigpen Jr.

Eugene Thigpen Jr., 67, of Selma, died Monday, November 24, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29, t the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy McDole Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Thigpen; two sons, Eddie (Jennifer) Thigpen and Willie Mel Prince; five daughters, Sharee (Kevin) Turpin of New York, Juanita (Sylvester) Thrash, Sharon (William) Smith, Barbara (Darryl) Cunningham and Aneice Prince; two sisters, Della (Al) Richardson of Philadelphia and Frances Hanks of Atlanta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are family and friends.

DaNelle Lawrence Garrison

DaNelle Lawrence Garrison, 62, of Selma, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at a local hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lawrence Funeral Home.

Tommie McGhee

Tommie McGhee, 73, of Lowndes County, died Thursday, November 20, 2003. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29, at White Lily Baptist Church with Elder Gene McGhee officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Lola Mae Cunningham

Lola Mae Cunningham, 53, of Minter, died Saturday, November 22, 2003. Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, November 28, at Temple Gate CME Church with Evangelist A. Washington officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Robert Thompson

Robert E. Thompson, 82, former publisher of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and national editor for Hearst Newspapers, Nov. 18 at his home in Williamsburg, Va., of prostate cancer. Thompson traveled extensively with Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, accompanying the latter on an unannounced visit to U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1967. In 1962, he co-authored a book, ”Robert Kennedy: The Brother Within,” with Hortense Myers.

Bessie Hollis Shelby

Bessie Hollis Shelby, 73, of Marion, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at a Perry County nursing home. Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Friday, November 28, at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Fancher officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes of Marion directing. Survivors include two sons, Mike Canada of Selma and Pat Shelby of Destin, Fla.; grandchildren, Amanda and Chris Shelby, and Kimberly Canada all of Selma; one great-child. Family visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. Friday, at the Calvary Baptist Church prior to the service.

Lana Ray Hamilton Nassaney

Lana Ray Hamilton Nassaney, 53, of Moundville, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, November 28, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Jerry Deasy officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Mausoleum with Magnolia Chapel South directing.

Survivors include her husband, George A. Nassaney Jr. of Moundville; mother, Virginia Hamilton Moody of Forestdale; brothers, Joseph Kevin Hamilton (LeGwen), Shamblin Lane Hamilton (Denise); step-brothers, Gary Moody, William Daniel Moody and Ronald Moody; mother-in-law, Billie Jo Haisten; father-in-law, George Nassaney Sr. (Betty); brother-in-law, David Nassaney; sisters-in-law, Deborah Benton (Richard), Susan Dubose (Mike) and Robin Nassaney.

She was preceded in death by hr father, Joseph Ray Hanilton and stepfather, William D. Moody.

Active pallbearers are Terry Pearson, Bannie Smithson, Shamblin Hamilton, Kevin Hamilton, Daniel Dillard, Mike Dubose, Mike Ham, Roger Egger and Richard Benton.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Nassaney was born on May 29, 1950 in Birmingham. She was a graduate of Minor High School, and 1972 graduate of the University of Montevallo.

She was married to George on June 9, 1979. She was a former music teacher at Partlow School. She was the office manager at the Law Office of her husband George Nassaney Jr.
