Johnny Davis Jr.

Johnny Davis Jr., 58, of Dallas County/ Selma, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in Selma.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. James Spicer officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Davis III and Johnny Smiley; three daughters, Tracy Yvonne Davis Spicer, Kimberly Michelle Davis and Katrina Lewis; one brother, James (Diane) Tate; three sisters, Carolyn (Albert) Fuller, Gwendolyn Smiley and Rosalyn Walker of Montgomery; six grandchildren; one son-in-law, Waymond Spicer; six brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; three nephews; two nieces; and a host of friends and other relatives.

Active pallbearers are Nathan Sykes, Oscar Gardner, Clinton Rose, Joseph Jones, Corey Carter, Waymond Spicer and Ronald Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Davis and his parents, Johnny and Frances Lewis Davis.

Mr. Davis was a Baptist. He was employed with Otey Crisman Golf Company for over 40 years.

Thelma Jones Giles

Thelma Jones Giles, 73, of Gilbertown, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Gilbertown.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, with the Rev. James Young, the Rev. Jessie Griffith and the Rev. Mike Boutwell officiating. Burial followed in Hurricane Cemetery, Gilbertown.

Survivors include her son, David Dewayne Giles of Selma; four brothers, J.C. Jones (Lera) of Kosciusko, Miss., L.V. Jones (Odean) of Noxapater, Miss., William &uot;Bill&uot; Jones of Philadelphia, Miss., Floyd &uot;Bug&uot; Jones Jr. (Nellie) of Philadelphia, Miss; two sisters, Elma M. Smith of Jackson, Miss., and Mattie J. Davis (Harmon) of Philadelphia, Miss.

Active pallbearers were Justin Proctor, Steven Giles, Barry Giles, Jeremy Giles, Mike Giles and Bridgett Hare.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Thompson, Lynn Hare, Ronnie Jones, Herman Coburn, Nicholas Giles, Taylor Giles, Jonathan Proctor, Clint Reynolds and Amanda Reynolds.

Mrs. Giles was an employee of Wal-Mart in Waynesboro, Miss. and a member of Eastern Star-Butler Chapter #91 and a member of Salem Baptist Church, Neshobaca, Miss.

Hattie G. Shannon

Hattie G. Shannon, 82, of Sardis, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at a local hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Sardis, with the Rev. Coley C. Chestnut officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Santee Shannon Jr.; three daughters, Sallie Miller, Georgia Watts and Patricia Shannon; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and three nieces.

Active pallbearers are grandsons.

Virginia Craig Jackson

Virginia Craig Jackson, 69, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Selma, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 in Detroit.

Services will be held in Detroit, Mich.

Survivors include her husband, Harvey Jackson and sister-in-law o, Clarice McCord of Detroit, Mich.; a step-son, Michael B. Jackson and niece Benita M. Hunter of Mobile; other relatives and friends include, Thelma King, Bobbie King, Gloria Bonner, Julia Thomas, Lula Williams, Leola L. Dixon, Betty and Henry Jackson of Selma, and Dora and Bo Harper of Markham, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Perkins and a son, Vincent Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson was 1951 graduate of R.B. Hudson High School.
