For Victor Inge, Sept. 11 began like any other day.

Inge had just started working for the Black Belt Chapter of the American Red Cross in Selma and was getting dressed to go to work.

As Inge was getting ready for work that morning, he happened to glance at the television.

Inge said the next few weeks would provide not only a valuable learning experience but also what he termed &uot;a lot of confusion.&uot;

Six months later, Inge was named the interim director of the Black Belt Chapter, a role that he says continues to challenge him on a daily basis.

To commemorate 9/11, Inge said the Black Belt Chapter will be holding a blood drive today at the Selma Mall, from 2 to 7 p.m.

There will also be a blood drive held next week on Sept. 18 in the gym lobby of Wallace Community College, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The events of 9/11 have also impacted the Black Belt area in on other ways. Inge said he has been working with regional and state Red Cross officials on developing a disaster plan for the Black Belt area.

Another challenge facing the Black Belt Chapter is a lack of volunteers.
