John W. Cooper
John W. Cooper, 80, of Selma, died Monday, September 8, 2003 at his home.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include a sister, Becky Ash of Montgomery; son, Johnny (Dianne) Cooper of Selma; grandchildren, Tracie (Joe) Sloan, Rebecca (Brandon)Pitts, Katie Cooper, Ashley Carter, Sara Ash, Eric Ash and Kevan Ash; great-grandchildren, Skyler Smith, Sara Smith and Cody Sloan; and brother, Ralph (Merle) Cooper.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Martha Mott Evans Scott
Martha Mott Evans Scott, 61, of Selma, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at a local hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 11, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. F.D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two son, Melvin B. (Toni) Evans of Memphis, Tenn., and Eugene C. (Rosemary) Scott of Naples, Italy; one daughter, Wanda P. (Anthony) Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, William J. Evans of Central Islip, N.Y. and Robert E. (Annest) Evans of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sisters, Estella Cook, Elizabeth Carter and Laura Irby of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are Deacons and Brotherhood of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Ms. Scott accepted Christ at an early age and was united with the Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a dedicated and faithful member and served in numerous church and community activities and events. She was educated in the Selma Public School System. She later received her Associate degree from Selma University a Bachelor’s and a master degree and Master’s degree from Alabama State University in early childhood and elementary education.
She taught for years at McRae Learning Center and in both Selma City and Dallas County Schools, Den Mother -Cub Scout Pack #193 and served with the Selma IND Choir.
