Mattie Kate Lacy

Mattie Kate Lacy, 96, of Selma, formerly of Orrville, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, at the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with the Rev. John Davis and Dr. Jerry Bedsole officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Edmund P. (Sandra) Lacy III of Dozier; one daughter, Virginia L. (W.H. Bill) Kendrick of Orrville; one brother, W.M. Schroeder of Selma; one sister, Jean Bedsole; three grandchildren, W. Lacy (Frances) Kendrick of Selma, E. Scott Lacy of Macon, Ga., and C. Jeff Lacy of Beaumont, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Will, Walter and Tommy Kendrick all of Selma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund P. Lacy Jr.

Active pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John T. Moore, Lloyd Phillips, Claude Shaw, Walter Boone, Robert Kirk and Jimmy Wampler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orrville Baptist Church, Orrville Methodist Church or Cahaba Hospice.

Mrs. Lacy was a registered nurse and worked for Dr. John T. Moore.

Katie Abercrombie

Katie Abercrombie, 75, of Brent, died Saturday, August 23, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, at James Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. James West officiating. Burial will follow in Unionship Cemetery in Lawley, with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Manly Sauls Pierce

Manly Sauls Pierce, 80, of Opelika, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at his home.

Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 30, at the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Adams Pierce of Opelika; children, Donna (Bill) Tabola of Montgomery, Texas, Janie (Aaron) Holden of Panama City, Fla., Tom (Cheryl) Pierce of Largo, Fla., and Kenny S. Pierce of Selma; stepchildren, Diane (Chuck) Sellers of Auburn, David (Belinda) Wyatt of Valley and Mike (Linda) Wyatt of Selma; brothers, Sammy (Dorothy) Pierce of Ayden, N.C., William (Dorothy) Pierce of Haines City, Fla., and Raymond Pierce of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sam and Burress Pierce, and a brother, Dr. Courtney Pierce.

In lieu of flowers, the family request your prayers and support as well as sharing your memories to celebrate the life of Manly Sauls Pierce.

Mr. Pierce was a retired major of the United States Air Force.
