GOP candidate denies crossover

Mark Story says he did not crossover and vote as a Democrat in a runoff election that is being contested by state representative candidate LaTosha Brown.

Both Story and Brown are trying to earn the Alabama House of Representatives District 67 seat. Brown, a Democrat, lost to Yusuf Salaam in the June 25 runoff election. Brown is contesting those results.

One of her points of contention is that Republicans organized a crossover vote where Republicans who voted in the June 4 Republican primary voted as Democrats in the June 25 election.

During a Thursday press conference, Brown’s representatives said there were signatures that appear to be Story’s name on the Republican list of voters and one on the Democratic list of voters.

“Their accusations are absurd that I voted in the Democratic primary. I voted in the Republican primary and the Republican run-off,” said Story on Friday. “If they have my name on a Democratic sign-up sheet, it is a forgery.”

Story won the Republican primary for District 67 and is scheduled to face Salaam in November.
