Martha Jean Lee Williams
Martha Jean Lee Williams, known to her many friends as &uot;Mart,&uot; died Tuesday, July 15, 2003,
at her home.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Brown Chapel AME Church. Burial will be in Fairlawn Memory Gardens with Williams Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be members of Twelve High and Chesterfield clubs.
Mrs. Williams was a Selma native, the daughter of Willa Mae Fountaine and the late James Lee. Educated in Selma and at Alabama State University, she was a teacher in the Dallas County School System.
She took an active role in the civic and social life of the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha International Sorority, Links International and Entre Nous.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fred D. Williams III; two daughters, Kaye F. Williams (and spouse Earl Johnson Jr.) of Alexandria, Va., and Kimberly Williams (John Dillon) of Bloomington, Minn.; two granddaughters, McKenzie and Madison, also of Bloomington; and her mother.
Other survivors include a cousin, Mildred Koyton and family of Detroit and several nieces and nephews.
Tawsawanna Gamble Williams
Tawsawanna Gamble Williams, 25, of Selma, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at a New York hospital.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Chapel of Murry Brothers Funeral Home.
Survivors include her parents, Billy Joe (Emily) Gamble of Selma; grandparents, William (Mary) Gamble of Selma; four aunts, Mary Ella (Levi) Riddle of Atlanta, Ga., Hattie (Willie) Harville of Selma, Lela (Ernest) Pyles Jr.,
Dora (Calvin) Johnson and Anna (Ronald) Kailim all of New York; three uncles, William &uot;Bill Jr.&uot; (Bonny) Gamble of California, Willie (Mattie) of Mobile and Will Ellis of Detroit, Mich.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ms. Williams attended Selma High School and made many friends, including a very special friend, Latasha &uot;Teash&uot; Campbell.
The family wishes to thank each and every one for their kind thoughts and prayers shown during the illness of their loved one.
Albert Landers
Albert Landers, 88, of Dallas County, Sardis, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at a Montgomery hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Sardis, with the Rev. Curtis Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Hunter Landers; six sons, Hayward (Beverly), Oscar, Elza (Barbara), John, Albert Jr. and Horace Landers; one sister, Sofronia Landers; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Hayward, Oscar, Elza, John, Albert Jr. and Horace Landers.
Mr. Landers was retired.
Walter Parker Jr.
Walter Parker Jr., 33, of Selma, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Panama City, Fla.
Services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Delois L. Parker of Selma; parents, Walter and Irene Parker Sr. of Selma; four sons, Courtney Smith, Rayshun Jackson, Jermin Jackson Sr. and Henry Jackson all of Selma; two daughters, Delois Ann Jackson and Kamilah Jackson both of Selma; one brother, Rodrick Parker of Selma; sister, Sandra Parker or Selma; seven grandchildren; seven brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Darryl (Lenora) Cosby.
Clara Sue Lovinggood
Clara Sue Lovinggood, 93, of Selma, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at a local nursing home.
Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Nena M. Lovinggood of Suttle and Gloria B. Lovinggood of Camden; niece, Joellen L. Vansword of Hoover; nephews, Clyde E. Lovinggood, James H. Lovinggood of Camden, Charles M. Lovinggood of Selma and Sanford B. Lovinggood of Tallahassee, Fla.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are nephews.
Family visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggest memorials be made to your favorite charity.
Ms. Lovinggood, was the oldest living member of Pineflat Baptist Church of Suttle. She was a nurse for over 25 years at Vaughan Memorial Hospital, Selma.
Henry Lee Fail
Henry Lee Fail, 70, of Dallas, died Saturday, July 12. 2003, at his home.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra K. Fail (Myron) Christian and Petronia S. Fail of Selma; five brothers, Charlie (Lelia) Fail, Ned (Jeannette) Fail, Joseph Fail, Jimmy Fail all of Selma and Loveless (Delois) Fail of Birmingham; two sisters, Sadie (James) Fail of Selma and Hattie (Claude) Hildreth; one son- in-law, three brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; an aunt, Ethel Bell Bender; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are the Tyler and Providence Male Chorus.
Mr. Fail was a former member of the Friendly Four of Selma, and a member of Providence and Tyler Male Chorus.
Elnora Thomas
Elnora Thomas, 89, of Marion Jct., died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at a local hospital.
Services are at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. B.T. Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one son, Willie J. Thomas (Jacqueline) of Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Rebecca T. Kimbrough of Marion Jct.; one brother, Elijah Thomas of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three sisters, Rosie Lee Thomas and Betty Kennie both of Marion Jct., and Ellen Caldwell of Selma; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, James Kennie of Marion; daughter-in-law, Margaret S. Thomas of Selma; one special cousin, Mary E. Lewis of Buffalo, N.Y.; one goddaughter, Willie Mae Peaks of Montgomery; and nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are nephews and grandsons.
