A long road trip such as the one the Cloverleafs are traveling can bring a lot to a team–a sense of camaraderie, for example. But it can also bring changes.

Since the Leafs left Selma to travel, they’ve picked up two new players. Both are pitchers, and both have had excellent showings in the last few games that the Leafs have played.

Lee Jolly, a right-handed pitcher from Noonan, Ga., came in and pitched in Saturday’s game against Pensacola.

“He came in and pitched in the game that broke our losing streak,” said Merritt Bowden, manager of the Leafs. Jolly will wear number 12 for the remainder of the season.

The second new Cloverleaf is Eric Turnrose, who came from Missouri.

“He was actually in St. Louis when he called me about trying out,” said Bowden. “He left at 4 a.m., drove to Ozark, and pitched the next day.”

Bowden said that both pitchers are great additions to the Leafs’ roster.

“I like [Turnrose’s] attitude–he goes after the hitter,” said Bowden.

Bowden said that both pitchers have been signed to regular contracts, and should be around to help out the team for the rest of the season.
