James W. Mock, Sr.

James W. Mock, Sr. died to this world on June 1, 2012, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. He was a Christian who loved his family and the Lord. His legacy is an entire family of believers.
He was born in Selma, AL on October 13, 1927, the son of the late Peter Robert and LaNora Rogers Mock. On October 2, 1949 he married Margaret Elizabeth Reynolds who survives. Mr. Mock was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He retired as a Sgt. Major of the U.S. Army after 24 years of honorable service to his country. While in the military he was a Ranger and Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, as well as a Finance Operations NCO.
He served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and earned a Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement against Hostile Forces in Vietnam.
Jim also played football and tennis on various Army teams and was an avid hunter, fisherman and Braves fan. After retirement he worked in real estate and financial services as a broker and commercial appraiser.
He was a committed Republican and served in many capacities within the Cobb County Republican Party and was a faithful member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
Mr. Mock is survived by his wife of 63 years Margaret Reynolds Mock, six children, Sylvia Miles, Kay Teague, Debbie & Ralph Melvin, La Nora & Steve Radford, James & Alisa Mock, Jr., and Bob & Sue Mock, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother Julian Mock and two sisters, Gwen Shaw and Earl Mock-Jordan.
Mr. Mock was preceded in death by his parents and his elder brother Peter Robert.
A memorial celebration will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Monday, June 4 at 5 PM, followed by reception at 6 PM.
The graveside service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia Tuesday, June 5th at 11.30 am. The time is to be determined.
