Elbert J. Kynard

Elbert J. &uot;Son&uot; Kynard, 73, of Orrville, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Aimwell Baptist Church with the Rev. W. N. Edwards officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Kynard; son Steve (Patsy) Kynard of Prattville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Active pallbearers are Howard Davis Jr., Jesse Englett, Ed Williams, Tom Nelson, Ted Nelson and Larry Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jack Burns, Charles Lawley, Robert Raines, Tommy McHugh, Bobby Carter, Bert Fisher, Mike Hancock, Bud Mott, Ray Hearon, Andrew Johnson and Roger Katt.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Murray Clarance Godwin

Murray Clarance Godwin, 57, of Selma, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his home.

Graveside services are at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Casey Church of Christ Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Britton officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include brothers, Edrick Lee Godwin of Smith Station, and Marvin Davis (Connie) Godwin of Selma; sisters, Francis (Roy) Moorer of Selma, Jeanette Williams of Coppelle, Texas, Carole Tarbert of Panama City, Fla., and Rivie (Wayne) Huffman of Elmore.

Jewel Mable Oates Phelps

Jewel Mable Oates Phelps, 91, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Orrville, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at a Baton Rouge hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home the Rev. Sandy Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Joe E. Allen (Betty) of Selma, Robert H. Allen (Linda) and Timothy O. Allen (Maggie) all of Jackson, Tenn.; daughters, Daphryn Ann Crew of Montgomery, Elizabeth Istre (Dean) of Baton Rouge and Karen A. McHugh (Tommy) of Orrville; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Orrville United Methodist Church.

Maude Ophelia Smith Baker

Maude Ophelia Smith Baker, 87, of Burnsville, Minn., formerly of Selma, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, in Burnsville, Minn.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Chappelle officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include, son John W. Baker Jr. and wife Katie of Auburn, Calif.; daughter, Mary Linda White and husband, Tom of Apple Valley, Minn.; grandchildren, Philip White and wife Darcy of Lonsdale, Minn., now serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq, Peter White and wife Ellen of Prior Lake, Minn., Kate Franken and husband Matt of Savage, Minn., John Baker III and wife Gina of Lafayette, Calif., and Chris Baker and wife Celli of Lincoln, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Travis White and Kas and Calvin Baker.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch.

Mrs. Baker was the widow of John Wilson Baker, former Dallas County Sheriff. She lived in Selma until 1992, and was a member of Central. Baptist Church.
