Allegations of sexual abuse of a minor prompted a protest Tuesday by parents of children at the local daycare where it reportedly happened.

The case has been sent to a Dallas County grand jury after a preliminary hearing was held May 7.

James Anderson, 50, one of the owners of Miss Emma’s Daycare, located on the Old Montgomery Highway, has been accused of sexually abusing a minor at the daycare. Selma police did not release the names of the victim or the victim’s parents.

Dallas County District Attorney Ed Greene, whose office will be prosecuting the case, said the “allegations were justified” and that his office was awaiting a trial date.

Protests were held Tuesday outside the front of Miss Emma’s by parents of children who attended the daycare. According to observers in the area, several parents were carrying signs and marching in front of the daycare.

Attorney Billy Faile, who will be representing Anderson, said the charges are completely unfounded and that his client will be proven innocent after the case goes to trial.

Faile also commented on the protests.

“It is unfortunate that these parents are protesting against someone when they stand accused only,” said Faile. “Everyone deserves a trial before they can be accused of being guilty of a crime. I think this is completely unfair.”

When asked to comment, Anderson said, “I can only say this didn’t happen.”
