Mark Stroud Corr, Jr, age 94 of Birmingham, Alabama died on May 30, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark S. and Julia Corr, his first wife Irene L. Corr, his wife Elizabeth A. Corr, his son Mark S. Corr III, his brother, C. Dozier Corr and his sister, Beverly C. Puryear.
He is survived by his daughter Renee C. Locklin of Staunton,VA, his son Marshall Corr (Robin) of San Francisco, CA, his daughter-in-law, Kathleen F. Corr of Hudson, OH, his siblings, Robert H. Corr, and James V. Corr of Atlanta, GA., Nancy C. Martin of Selma, AL and Alice C. Rogers, of Palm Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Mary Catherine Decker (Greg), Ann Locklin Lange (Vince), Peggy C. Moriarty (Brendan), and Mark Stroud Corr, IV (Christine), Lisa Drake, Jason Drake; and ten great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his stepdaughters Allison C. Murray (Fred), Catharine C. Friend (Eddie), his stepson, Robert T. Comer III (Jennifer) all of Birmingham; his step grandchildren, Allison Manley (Duncan), Virginia Phillips (Will), Elizabeth Murray, Comer Crawford, Kate Agricola (Stephen), Robert Comer (Laura), John Comer
(Brooke), Matt Comer; and by eight step great grandchildren.
Mark was born on July 14, 1915 in Marion, Alabama and grew up in Selma.
He graduated in 1937 from Auburn University where he received a BE degree in Chemical Engineering.
While at Auburn, he was manager of the football team, a member of ODK, Scabbard &
Blade, Spades and the Kappa Alpha Order.
He spent his entire professional career with the DuPont Company serving as Plant Manager of the cellophane plant in Clinton, IA and retired as a vice president at the
home office of DuPont in Wilmington, DL.
Upon his retirement he moved back to Selma and married Elizabeth Allison Corr.
He was an active member of the Selma community and served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church.
He managed Day’s Bend, a ranch owned by his lifelong friend, Mac Rikard, and was responsible for the restoration of Rikard’s Mill, a fully functional grist mill, which is now
an historical landmark and is located outside Buena Vista, AL.
In 2002 Mark and Elizabeth moved to Kirkwood by the River in Birmingham.
At Kirkwood he made many very special friends and developed an avid interest in gardening.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassion and care given to Mark by Betty Leslie, Alicia Leslie and pastor Richard Hanna and the entire staff of Kirkwood by the River.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Kirkwood by the River on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 3:00.
A family burial service will be held in Auburn at the Pine Hill cemetery on Thursday, June 3 at 2:00.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to Kirkwood by the River, 3605 Ratliff Road, Birmingham, AL, 35210, or to a favorite charity.
