Dr. Earline Washington Lett

Dr. Earline W. Lett, 87, resident of Selma, Alabama passed away on March 28, 2010. Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2010, 11:00 A.M. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Rodney T. Morton.
Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens directed by Miller Funeral Home.
Earline W. Lett, L. H. D. is a retired Selma City Schools teacher who as a teacher was selected to teach in one of Selma’s first integrated schools.
Upon retirement she was drafted as the second black female to serve on the appointed Selma Board of Education.
She is the mother of Dr. Verdell Lett Dawson, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent-Selma City Schools, of Dr. W. James Lett (OB-GYN), Rev. Charles L. Lett, M.D. (Surgeon), Dr. Samuel C. Lett (OB-GYN). Dr. W. James Lett practices in San Antonio, TX; Dr. Charles L. Lett and Dr. Samuel C. Lett practice in Selma.
She also has an adopted daughter, Betty Smith Carter of Detroit, MI who is a retired educator.
Other survivors include three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Patsy Lett of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Rita Lett, and Mrs. Connie Lett of Selma, Alabama; one son-in-law, Clarence
Carter of Detroit, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren, two brothers-in-laws, six nieces, three nephews, many cousins, compassionate doctors and caregivers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
