Southside, Morgan win matches

SELMA — Southside and Morgan Academy volleyball teams won grudge matches Monday.
Southside returned the favor by beating Selma 25-21, 18-25 and 15-11 in match play.
Morgan, ranked No. 5 in the Birmingham News AISA poll, defeated Meadowview Christian School 3-0.
Southside started the day by defeating R.C. Hatch 25-14 and 25-9 in volleyhball action.
Southside coach April O’Neal recognized the play of Heaven White ande Juanita McKinnis for their serves. White had nine aces and McKinnis served seven aces.
In the Selma match, Southside won the first game 25-21 on the strength of three kills by Africa Tyler and five aces by Rita Pullom.
Selma won the second set 25-18 to force the third-set tiebreaker.
Three critical digs by Southside’s Trenteria Richardson provided the margin in the 15-11 game.
The next contests for Southside will be Thursday when R.E. Lee and Sidney Lanier visit. Selma is at Jeff Davis on Thursday.
Morgan Academy raised its season record to 12-2 before today’s game at Jackson Academy. The Senators are at Lee Scott on Thursday.
