George Carver Rogers

George Carver Rogers was born to Pete and Mary B. Rogers, Sr. on October 27, 1942. He was the fifth son of his four sisters and six brothers. George passed on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at his home in Suffern, New York. He was 69.

A brick mason by trade, George worked on hundreds of construction sites in New York and Alabama for over 30 years. George was a devoted father and grandfather to his daughter, Arlene Dawn Rogers of Hillburn, New York and her two daughters, Dominique Andrea Rogers of Columbia, Maryland and Michelle Antoinette Noel and one son, Nyles George Rogers, both of Hillburn, New York. His beloved, Muriel F. Hart, a native of Limon, Costa Rica preceded George in death twenty-seven years earlier. Arlene is their only daughter.

George is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren, his sister, Mary Ellen Boykin of Selma, Ala., two brothers, William “Bill” Rogers of Spring Valley, New York and Louis Thomas Rogers of Milton, Fla., one brother-in-law, Isaiah Ransom, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Pete Sr. and Mary B. Rogers, his brothers, Pete, Jr., Jesse James, Benjamin Franklin, and Cecil Evans Rogers and sisters, Elizabeth Rogers Kilpatrick, Louvenia Rogers Cade, and Juanita Rogers Ransom.

George’s memorial service is scheduled for July 28, 2012 at 6:00 PM at the Scarr Funeral Home, Inc., 160 Orange Avenue, Suffern, New York 10901-6006, (845) 357-1137. J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home, Inc. will officiate the interment during a graveside service on August 11, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery, 802 South Race Street, Selma, Ala.
