Don Crawford

Don Ryan Crawford, a native of Selma, Alabama and a thirty-seven year resident of Daytona Beach, passed from this life on April 8, 2009.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, CWO4 Maxey Crawford and Mrs. Freddie Jones Crawford and his brother, Roosevelt Thompson, Jr.
Don received his B.S. and M.ED, from Alabama State University. He taught in the Florala Alabama City School District. He was Director of Student Activities at Talladega State College before coming to Bethune-Cookman College as the Director of Student Activities. He worked for the Volusia County School Board until his retirement as Director of Student Transportation Services. After retirement, Don worked during race week at the Daytona Beach International Speed-way. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity and numerous other organizations.
Don leaves to mourn a loving and very devoted fiancée, Essie Maria Smith; a daughter Alissa Breanna Crawford of Stone Mountain, GA;

Boykins, Cincinnati, OH; Godmother, Mrs. Virginia Tyson, Enterprise, AL; a loving surrogate mother, Mrs. Vivian Lockley, Lake City, FL; nephews: Kevin (Jacqueline) Cunningham, Selma, AL; Roosevelt Thompson, III, Mobile, AL; nieces: devoted Beverly Thompson, Mobile, AL; Myra Pierce, Springfield, OH; cousins: a very devoted cousin, Rita (Richard) Nichols, Saraland, AL; Joyce (Milton) Coleman, Cincinnati, OH; Pauline Jones, Rena M. (John) Hayes, Detroit, MI; John W. Jones, Cincinnati, OH; God sister and brother, Mrs. Lois Johnson and Mr. Earlie Johnson, Enterprise, AL; a loving and caring surrogate family, The Lockleys, Lake City, FL; Devoted friends, Mr. Ken Strachan and Mr. Bennie Wade, Daytona Beach, FL. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 4 PM until 8:30 PM at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 8:30 AM until 10 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 10 AM at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 539 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL, Dr. L. Ronald Durham, Senior Pastor will officiate. Interment; Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greater Friendship Scholarship Ministry, c/o 1336 Laurel Dr., Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
