Helen McKinney Brown, a long-time resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008 at Park Place Rehabilitation in Selma, Alabama, where she had moved to be near her daughter, as her health declined. Visitation is scheduled at Leak-Memory Chapel on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM. Graveside services will be in Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joe Knight officiating. She was a longtime member of Eastmont Baptist Church. Helen was born in Prattville, Alabama in 1922. She grew up in Montgomery where she met and married Carl T. Brown (Tom) in 1942. The Air Force kept them traveling around the country where she always met and made many friends. These stations included South Carolina, South Dakota, Massachusetts, Germany, Florida, and Illinois, but her heart was always in Montgomery. Helen’s fondest memories was her involvement in the PBX clubs where she served locally and later became the state, national, and international president. Helen was best known as the voice of First Alabama Bank, where she retired from after more than 30 years of service, but continued doing volunteer work around Montgomery. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Betty Brannon and Jane (Greg) Bjelke of Selma, Alabama; her sister; three great grandchildren, Isiah Brannon, Ty Gallion and Jack Owens. Helen is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to one’s favorite charity.
