A municipal court judge found Selma City School Board member Frank Chestnut Jr. guilty of misdemeanor harassment charges Monday night, just hours after a hearing in Selma’s Municipal Court.
Chestnut was given a five-day suspended jail sentence, fined $100 and ordered to pay $150 in court costs.
Chestnut was found guilty of assaulting Carolyn Robinson, a member of an organization that frequents school board meetings, according to her testimony in the hearing. Robinson testified in court, as well as four other witnesses for the prosecution, that Chestnut angrily approached her after a board meeting, yelled and poked his finger in her forehead.
The Selma Municipal Court confirmed Tuesday that Chestnut was found guilty on misdemeanor harassement charges by Judge Franklin Cordery, the municipal court judge from Uniontown.
The case began in March when following a Selma City School Board meeting at the School of Discovery.
Robinson filed a police report that evening and then a few days later, swore out a warrant for Chestnut’s arrest.
He later turned himself in and posted the $500 bond.
