Patricia Warren Mills, a long time resident of Montgomery, AL, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 19, 2012, in Nairobi, Kenya.
She in born in Miami, FL, raised in Selma and spent the last 36 years in Montgomery. While living in Selma, she established a TV talk show at WSLA TV where she served as hostess. She was Women’s Editor of the Selma Times Journal for two years. She was an officer of the Selma Charity League, a co-founder of both the Riverfront Market Day and the Dallas County Annual Antiques Show. She also won the state of Alabama Preservation Award.
Since living in Montgomery, she was very involved with Landmarks Foundation where she served on the board, was Membership Chairman and led various committees for Landmark Auctions. While there she planned and coordinated Art On the Grounds and a children’s summer camp, History Hurrah. She volunteered at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts leading various design and layout projects for the museum shop and for special museum events. She led a project for the Montgomery Association for Retarded Children that upgraded facilities for handicapped infants and their families. Patsy was a member of the Antiquarian Society, Wisteria Garden Club and Junior Thespian Literary Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald A.B. Mills and parents Joe T. and Mertie Warren. Survivors include her brother Joe (Jean) Warren, children Tom (Sharon) Sommerville, Lisa (Bart) Johnson, William (Elizabeth) Sommerville, Cannon (Emily) Sommerville and her 8 grandchildren Beau, Ben, Brian, Will, Cain and Sarah Timmons Sommerville and Alex and Annie Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cottars Wildlife Conservation Trust in Kenya at www.kenyawildlifeconservation.org, the Montgomery Area Hearing Loss Support Group ministered by the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery or the
charity of your choice in Patsy’s honor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, located in Old Cloverdale at 2416 W. Cloverdale Park, Montgomery. Lawson Bryant will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the Bay Section of Fellowship Hall at the church.
