Marlyne Rowell
August 15, 1938 – September 23, 2012
Pensacola, FL – Surrounded by family and with peace in her heart, Marlyne Mulry passed away on September 23, 2012. She was born the daughter of Marvin Rowell and Elizabeth Voncile Rowell of Carlowville, AL.
Marlyne is survived by her daughters Daena Harrison Myers (Harry “Hap” E. Myers, III), Melissa Harrison Huston (Paul Huston), her brother Ricky Rowell (Carolyn Rowell) and sister Bonnie Rowell Buster. She loved and was loved by her special grand-children, nieces and nephews, who often referred to her as “Angelyne.”
Marlyne is pre-deceased by her son, “Bobby” and her sister Gladys Rowell Humphries.
Marlyne will be remembered by most as a teacher. She spent many joyous years as an elementary school teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School in Mobile, AL. She moved on to build a career of teaching others how to develop and manage their own businesses. Along the way she taught life lessons – by example, to everyone she met. Her quiet leadership – whether as a parent, a wife, a friend or an employer affected many lives.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She lovingly cared for aging parents while bravely marching on in her role as a parent of a child with cancer. She raised her daughters and guided grandchildren and her younger siblings with the perfect balance of both “roots and wings.”
Her extended family includes many life-long friendships and her precious church family “on the Key.” She has served as a “minister of presence” in many roles at the church and was most honored to be a part of the Worship Team.
Marlyne’s stead-fast faith has guided her throughout her life and several health challenges. She was the humble recipient of a liver transplant in 2005. She treasured the gift of “seven years that were not mine” by caring for and serving others.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Marlyne’s life during a memorial service at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church at 10:30am on Thursday, September 27th with Pastor Darren McClellan officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 29th at the Carlowville Baptist Cemetery in Carlowville, AL.
The family asks that you honor Marlyne’s life by prayerfully considering organ donation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Perdido Bay United Methodist Church, 13660 Innerarity Point Rd, Pensacola, FL 32507 or to St. Jude’s Hospital in support of children’s cancer.
