Head baseball coach Raymond Brown has announced the signing of Corda Bantum to attend Selma University and participate in intercollegiate baseball.

Bantum is a 2009 graduate of Sumter County High School, where he was a starter in the outfield and on the mound in his junior and senior seasons. Bantum had 15 stolen bases in his junior season and participated in the East-West All-Star game in Demopolis at the conclusion of his senior season.

“Corda is a good athlete and a fine young man,” Coach Brown said. “He is an effective player in the outfield and on the mound. He is a good addition to our team.”

Selma University discontinued its baseball program in 1997. The 2010 season opens Feb. 5 when Morehouse College comes to Selma.

Bantum marks the 11th signee for Selma University since the school decided to revive the baseball program for the 2009-2010 school year.
