Louis George Rambo, Jr., age 92, of Benton/Huntsville, AL, passed away August 24, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis G. and Annie Rambo; first wife, Virginia Louise Risher Rambo; brother, Albert Murray Rambo and sister, Ella Boyd McLean.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Simms Rambo; son, Louise George (Debbie) Rambo; step-sons, Schuyler “Dick” (Jan) Richardson and James H. “Jim” (Nancy) Richardson; daughters, Rosemary Rambo (Ronnie) Green and Kitty Rambo (Pete) Williamson; grandchildren, Olivia (Brian) Ford, Jennifer Rives, Allie Green, James “Jim” (Sarah)
Green, Andrew “Drew” (Clarissa) Rambo, Adam (Kari) Rambo and Clayton “Clay” Rambo, Patrick Richardson, Frances Richardson, Ben Richardson and Will Richardson and great-grandchildren, Chandler Ford, Chase Ford, Kate Green, Adam Green, Ben Green, Sutton Rambo and Connor Rambo.
Funeral services will be at Benton Baptist Church in Benton, AL on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Lee Tate officiating.
Interment will be in the Benton Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will follow the service at the Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge.
Mr. Rambo graduated from the University of Alabama in 1939, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as a naval officer aboard the U.S.S. Augusta.
He served in the North Atlantic and later was part of the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach.
Mr. Rambo was appointed Executive Director of the ASCS, an office he held from 1968-1977.
He was active in the Alabama Republican Party, the Alabama Farm Bureau and the Rotary Club.
He was an active deacon in the Benton Baptist Church for many years before moving to Huntsville.
He forged many friendships in both the Selma area and Huntsville, where he lived for most of the last eighteen years of his life.
