Selma police are searching for two suspects believed operating a scam that has bilked local elderly women out of thousands of dollars.

Selma Police Sgt. Doug Stewart said the first victim was approached at a local grocery story and coerced into going to her bank to withdraw a large sum of money.

“Once the elderly female gave the money to the suspect for a bogus transaction, the suspect fled the area,” he said.

A second elderly victim was approached at a local shopping center, he said. That victim’s story is similar to the first — she was talked into going to the bank, withdrawing a large sum of money and the suspect fled.

The suspects were captured on camera at local banks withdrawing the money, he said.

Selma Police Detective Sandra Washburn is investigating the two cases.

The police department needs the public’s help to identify the suspects.

If anyone recognizes either of the individuals in these photographs, they are asked to call Washburn at 874-2125 or Crime Stoppers at 877-3530.
