Dear Editor,

As a typical animal lover here in Selma, I feel the need to help make everyone aware of the current crisis at the Selma Animal Shelter.

In recent weeks, The Shelter has been overwhelmed with dogs and cats. Not only has The Selma Animal Shelter needed to resort to temporarily, at least, not accepting any animals, but the rate at which the beautiful creatures are being “put down” is frightening.

I recently became involved with Wannabe Rescued, an organization that fosters shelter dogs long enough to find permanent homes for them in other cities and states. I have been working with some wonderful people involved in this program and who save the lives of numerous pets.

I would particularly like to mention the following people; Janet Ealum, Lorraine Alexander, Deborah Clarke, Nancy Lea, Sarah Youngblood and many, many others, for their time and hard work. Let me also express my appreciation to the Valley Creek Veterinary Hospital.

But more lives could be saved if other animal lovers would join us in this endeavour.

I close with many thanks and kudos to Ward 3 Councilwoman, Susan Keith and the dedicated board members of the Selma Animal Shelter. Thanks to you all.
