Two older men play checkers at the farmer’s market. A father and son venture in the woods to hunt. A young girl and dog relax outside a barn.
Snapping a photo of these events captures the people and life of our region.
“A picture should tell a story,” said Ann Thomas, contest coordinator.
Thomas and ArtsRevive want to learn the stories of those in the region through snapshots for the fourth annual Riverfront Market Day Photography Contest.
The theme, “Through my eyes… the faces of Selma and Dallas County,” will bring to light the expressions and interactions of the people who make the area special.
“The whole idea is to get people to look at their community with a sense of pride and to look at it differently,” Thomas said. “To look at it and see something special about it and want to show that special-ness to other people.”
Entries for the contest must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Whether an experienced or novice photographer, Thomas encourages people of all ages to submit images.
Awards will be given for two categories: high school age and younger (student), and college age and older (adult).
Winners will be announced on Oct. 9 at Riverfront Market Day.
All entries will be displayed at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library at a date to be named later.
All entries must be an 8-inch by 10-inch photo matted, but not framed. Images can be in color or black and white. Limited digital alterations are allowed. Photos will not be returned.
Submissions will be accepted at The Frame Shoppe, 127 Broad St. Entries must be labeled on the back with the title of the photo, photographer’s name and contact number, category (adult or student) and school if applicable.
