MARION — A Uniontown man, Lamar Montrell Williams, 31, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after being convicted on five charges in Perry County, including manslaughter, attempted murder and two counts of second-degree assault — all of which stemmed from an incident in March 2011.
In addition, Williams was ordered to pay court costs, fees and restitution, and a fine of $10,000 to the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Fund.
The Attorney General’s office presented evidence at a trial in that began on Nov.26, 2011, in Perry County Circuit Court. The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of March 20, 2011.
Eyewitnesses testified that Williams raised a handgun and started shooting into a crowd outside of Lee’s Country Inn on County Road 1 south of Uniontown.
Jonathan Butler, 29, of Orrville, was killed, and four others were wounded.
Williams was found guilty on Nov. 28, 2011. He was sentenced as a habitual offender due to two previous convictions of first-degree assault for a 2006 shooting in which two victims were wounded, also in Perry County.
“It is appropriate that this killer has been sentenced to serve his life in prison for the reckless violence that destroyed one life and devastated others,” Strange said. “Today’s sentence provides a measure of justice for his crimes and should serve as a warning to others.”
The case was prosecuted by the attorney general’s criminal trials division at the recusal of the Perry County district attorney due to a potential conflict.
