While the nation watched in horror Monday as two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring many, we, as Selma residents felt the heartache and fear.
Although there were no residents running in the iconic marathon, what we did have were fellow Americans who were attacked in this senseless act of terror. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were affected by these violent crimes.
As a nation, we band together and recognize that there are individuals and groups out there that wish to harm us. However, as a country that is strong and courageous, we recognize that we will not allow that to happen.
Today, we are all Bostonians and we all acknowledge the brutal actions that were horrifically carried out. We also recognize all medical responders and selfless citizens that came with a helping hand at the scene of the explosions. Without these individuals, more harm may have happened.
As a nation, we will not crumble in the face of terror. As Americans, we are strong and will make a diligent effort to put an end to terrorist acts. Our hearts are with our political leaders — local and national.
We hope that they investigate this attack with clear minds, putting political leanings aside and band together for one common goal — safety of the American people.
Although our thoughts may be filled with fear, our hearts are filled with courage.
