While residents only walked a few miles Saturday morning for the 11th annual Selma-Dallas County Sav-A-Life Walk for Life, we believe that an immense amount was accomplished.

The walk, held every year to draw attention to the resources available for those experiencing unplanned pregnancies, raised more than $7,500.

Sav-A-Life, a relatively new program in Dallas County, provides an array of free resources to unexpected mothers such as pregnancy testing, parenting classes, counseling and baby supplies.

Jennifer Dobbs, director of Sav-A-Life, said the ministry currently does not generate enough finances to support itself — so it’s fundraisers like these that really help the program stay afloat.

It is our hope that through the Sav-A-Life walk, more residents discovered what the program offers and how it can benefit Selma.

Currently, Dobbs said the center is working to add more resources such as ultrasounds, but these amenities can only be added once the funds are available. We encourage residents and area organizations to consider supporting Sav-A-Life, as it is a worthwhile and life-saving cause.
