One team has experience. One team has plenty of youth.

What the two share in common is the fact they are both in their respective state championship tournaments, and both have a shot at bringing state softball titles back to Selma.

Meadowview Christian opens play Friday morning in the AISA Class 1A state softball tournament against Lakeside Academy, while Morgan Academy also opens play Friday morning in the AISA Class 3A tournament against Springwood.

For Meadowview Christian head coach Elyse McIntyre and Morgan’s Ed Miller, both have spent the past days leading up to the start of the state tournaments, focusing on fundamentals and eliminating mistakes that hurt them in the season’s waning weeks.

“We’ve been getting back to the basics. We needed to put behind us the regional championship game where we had 12 errors and lost,” Miller said. “We have good leadership, good experience and we need to put that to work for us beginning Friday.”

For McIntyre, she has focused on continuing to develop her young team, many of them playing as freshmen or sophomores.

“We’ve begun to believe in one another, playing for one another,” McIntyre said. “Everyone starts from scratch when it comes to this tournament and we have a chance to do something special.”

When Meadowview begins play Friday morning at 10 a.m., it will mark the first time the Lady Trojans have played in the AISA tournament in five years. If the Lady Trojans win, they would play again Friday at 4 p.m.

Morgan’s game against Springwood also begins at 10 a.m. If the Lady Senators win, they too would play Friday at 4 p.m

The tournament, which is double-elimination,  features eight teams in each division.
