Alex Frank “Buck” Farris, Jr.

Alex Frank “Buck” Farris, Jr., age 93, of Hoover, Al. passed away Monday, May 27, 2013. “Buck” was born in Columbus, Ga. on June 23, 1919, to parents, Alex F. Farris, Sr. and Pearl Tony Farris. Siblings included 2 brothers, and 2 sisters, (all deceased).

The family moved to Selma, Al. where “Buck” grew up, met and married Bessie Mervin Lester on September 16, 1939. He is survived by his wife, Bess; son, Alex (Chic); daughter Rita Wood; grandson, Alex; and two great-granddaughters. His wisdom and sense of humor will be missed by all.

“Buck” enlisted in the U.S Navy on May 9, 1944 and served as a Motor Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class. His education included Basic Engineer’s School and N.T Diesel School in Gulfport, MS., and Advanced Diesel School, Norfolk, VA., Upon Honorably Discharged on January 26, 1946 “Buck” was employed by Southern Railroad in Selma, AL where he worked as supervisor until his retirement in 1984. Visitation will be held in Selma at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. A private graveside will be later for the family and close friends at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Joseph Knight officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
