Claytonia Robinson Clay

Claytonia Robinson Clay, the daughter of Ola Lee Capell & Willie Robinson, and adoring wife of Clarence Prentice Clay (deceased) was born on October 9, 1919 and died on May 26, 2013. She was the mother of four daughters, LeVenta Clay-Donley (deceased), Madeline Clay Jackson, Prentess Clay Miller and Rosalind Clay Carter. Claytonia graduated Knox Academy and Selma University High School and attended Spellman College. Mrs. Clay was also a member of Green Street Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess, member of the Phyllis Wheatley Chapter #656 and former Secretary and Treasurer of the Trustee Board. Claytonia was the life-long business partner of her husband as they first managed and operated Swan’s Cafe and later the long-term establishment of Clay’s Casino.

Claytonia’s life perspective was guided by these words: “I have never had too much, yet I have never had so little that I would do anything to get more”. Services will be held at The Miller Funeral Home chapel in Selma on Saturday, June 8th, at 10:30 a.m.
