Starting pitcher Jake Peavy, who lives in Dallas County, was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Boston Red Sox as part of a three-team, six-player trade Tuesday night.

In the trade, the Red Sox received the 32-year-old Peavy and relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal. Boston hopes that Peavy solidifies a starting rotation that is still without Clay Buchholz, who has been on the disabled list with shoulder bursitis since June 8  The Detroit Tigers acquired shortstop Joel Iglesias from Boston, who is seen as insurance in case Jhonny Peralta is suspended as part of MLB’s Biogenesis investigation.

Chicago, who is in last place in the AL Central, received outfielder Avisail Garcia and three prospects.

Peavy has a 8-4 record this season with an ERA of 4.28. He has a career record of 128-97 and a ERA of 3.49.  In 2007 while pitching for the San Diego Padres, Peavy won the NL Cy Young award.

The pitcher has been slowed by injuries since winning the award. He had shoulder surgery in 2010 and has been on the disabled list multiple times with elbow injuries throughout his career.  In 2009, an ankle injury forced him to miss most of the MLB season.This season, a rib fracture sidelined him for nearly the entire month of June, but he is healthy now.
